The Sensor

This component is the `messenger' of the operation.  It's the job of the sensor to send the trigger message to the quickshifter to initiate the interrupt.  There are different types of sensors, pressure sensors, strain gauge sensors and positional sensors.

Translogic Systems Ltd offers two types, pressure (GP sensor) and positional sensors. We have designed into our GP sensors a `cushion' effect which results in a superior smooth gear lever action similar to using the clutch and shifting gear normally without a quickshifter system, this unique design reduces the load on the transmission and gives a little extra time to prepare for the unloading of the moving internal gearbox components as well as making the shift more comfortable for the rider/operator.  Every Translogic pressure quick shifter sensor is calibrated at our facility using state-of-the-art strain gauge technology in a controlled environment as temperature differential can effect the strain gauge output, this is vital for consistent strain gauge measurement, ensuring that when a GP sensor leaves Translogic Systems Ltd it has the right feel out of the box with the added bonus of never going out of adjustment. There are strain gauge quickshifter sensors used by Factory MotoGP teams which offer a small advantage in that this type of sensitive sensor can give an output when the sensor is in tension and compression, however the constant adjustment and maintenance make this type of sensor really only suitable for teams with a dedicated electronics technician.  The positional (Linear sensor) is used on applications where there is no tie rod to install the GP sensor.  This type of sensor is the only way to maintain the original feel of the gear lever and shift action over pivoting gear levers assemblies.  These positional sensors do require setting up and adjusting to trigger at the right gear lever point so they inherently aren't as easy to install as our GP sensors. They do however suit hand operated gear levers particularly well as the trigger point can be set without the operator feeling any initial pressure/resistance in the gear lever movement when upshifting.
